Theory exam

Before you can take a practical exam, you must first pass your theory exam at the CBR. Nowadays this is allowed from the age of 16.

Theory exam at CBR

It is important that you learn well for your exam and are present at the exam center at least fifteen minutes in advance. You bring a valid proof of identity and the reservation number you received from CBR. If you have not taken one of these two with you, you cannot participate in the exam.

What are the components of the theory exam?

1. Hazard recognition: recognizing danger and what to do in a situation
2. Knowledge: recognizing and naming facts and rules
3. Insight: applying rules and making the right decisions

How long does the exam take?

A regular theory exam takes a maximum of 30 minutes in total. Each part has its own duration.

Hazard recognition: 8 seconds per question
Knowledge: Time that you organize yourself (about 8 minutes total)
Insight: Time that you organize yourself (about16 minutes total)

For the theory exam with extra time and the individually supervised exam you get more time, namely 45 minutes. You will receive 5 minutes extra time for the knowledge component and 10 minutes extra for the insight component.

How many mistakes are you allowed to have?

How many errors are allowed is determined per part:

Hazard recognition: max. 12 out of 25
Knowledge: max. 2 out of 12
Insight: max. 3 out of 28

The result

As soon as you have completed the exam, you will immediately receive the results. This result (including specification) will also be sent to you via e-mail within 15 minutes. If you have passed, your theory certificate is valid for 1.5 years. If you have failed, you can register again for a second chance.
